Fiber Processing

COVID-19 NOTE FOR OUR MILL CUSTOMERS:

WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT!  JUST WHEN WE'VE MADE PROGRESS ON OUR BACKLOG AND BEGUN PREPARING TO TAKE IN NEW FIBER, THE VIRUS STRUCK.  WE ARE FOLLOWING THE GOVERNOR'S GUIDELINES AND STOPPED HAVING IN-PERSON MILL AND FARM VISITS FOR THE TIME BEING.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT VERY SOON WE WILL HAVE A BRAND NEW FIBER COLLECTION HUT AT THE ENTRANCE TO OUR FARM FOR CUSTOMERS TO DROP OFF THEIR FIBER AND/OR PICK UP THEIR FINISHED PRODUCT.  IT'S OUR ANSWER TO SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILE STILL PROCESSING YOUR FIBER...AND KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE UNTIL WE GET THROUGH THESE VERY DIFFICULT TIMES.

WE EXPECT THE HUT TO BE READY BY MID-MAY AND WILL POST A NOTE HERE ANNOUNCING THE OPENING, ALONG WITH INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT HOW TO LABEL AND DROP-OFF YOUR FIBER.  IN THE MEANTIME, STAY SAFE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR BUSINESS.

Complicated pricing systems for fiber processing drove us mad.  Our answer - a single flat rate processing charge.

The processing of fiber at Shenandoah Fiber and Mill is an art.  We tenderly clean your raw fiber and prepare it for processing.  Our new mill equipment is made to handle the fiber with care and to create either roving or yarn of the highest quality.

Once received, your fiber is weighed, cataloged, cross-checked with the results of your "online cost estimator" order form, and placed in the queue for processing.  If at times portions of your fiber are too coarse be used for yarn or roving, they are separated and used to make alpaca felt blankets for the homeless.  This supports our planet and community friendly production practices.

We charge $32.00 per pound of finished product for wool; $34.00 per pound of finished product for Huacaya; $38.00 for Suri or other exotics (which we blend with Huacaya for stability through the process).  The price includes all steps of the process:
